A day in the life of a full-time worker and health and nutrition coaching student
I’m a person who likes to be busy, and my daily schedule certainly reflects that. But I’m still always able to MAKE time for my healthy lifestyle & healthy habits. Which is why I wanted to write this blog, because, yes I am a busy human, but I do not let that get in the way of living a healthy life.
I honestly don’t believe ‘busy’ is a valid excuse (at least for majority of people) for not going to the gym, for making unhealthy food choices or for all round just not looking after your health and wellbeing.
So here’s a little snapshot into my daily life to prove it is possible to prioritise your health no matter how busy or how many commitments you may have!
Prior to full-time work life, I studied full-time at University. While I was studying at Uni, I worked 3 part-time jobs; not because I had to, but because I wanted to - I wanted all the experience I could get in my chosen field at the time. I did this while still maintaining my healthy, active lifestyle and playing competitive tennis. On top of all this, I was on an academic scholarship at University, so I had to maintain a certain GPA and the perfection inside of me did not accept anything below a Distinction. I went onto graduate my Bachelors Degree with Distinction & received a Dean's Medal for graduating in the top 2% of my cohort. So as you can see, healthy living and multiple commitments can work in harmony.
Today, I’m currently working full-time in a Business Development & Event Management role, while also studying part-time online to become a certified Health & Nutrition Coach. I go to the gym 5-6 times a week, play tennis every weekend, go out for brunch on the reg’s and meal prep each week.
And here’s a little break down of a typical weekday in my life…
5:00am - Wake up, get dress and drive to the gym.
5:30-6:30am - Gym time! I get my workout in bright and early so it's done for the day and there is no room for the ‘I’m too tired’ excuses.
6:30-7:00am - drive home, shower and get ready for work.
7:00-7:30am - Drink a cup of Bone Broth, take my probiotic and make my nourishing, balanced breakfast. I’ll usually have chia pudding or overnight oats prepped for a quick and easy brekkie so I can spend more time slowly & mindfully eating it (this trick has done wonders for my digestion!).
7:30-8:30am - Drive to work. One a good day the drive takes 1 hour, but if there is heavy traffic I’ll leave at 7:15am. In the mornings I’m energised and awake so I usually take this drive as an opportunity to learn and listen to a good podcast.
8:30am-4:30pm - Full-time work/desk life. I’m sure to get up every hour and go to the bathroom/get a drink of water so I can stretch my legs. On my lunch break, I’ll always make an effort to go outside and get some sun/fresh air so I’m refreshed & ready to focus for the afternoon.
4:30pm-5:30pm - Drive home (listen to a podcast or zone out with music - depending on my mood).
5:30-6:00pm - As soon as I get home I will get together my lunch and snacks for tomorrow - because I meal prep on the weekends, this usually just means bringing them in from the back fridge to pack in the morning. Then it is self-care time; I’ll go for a walk outside, meditate, read or mindlessly scroll on Insta if its been ‘one of those days’
6:00-6:30pm - sit down for a delicious, balanced dinner with my family (always made fresh by Mum <3)
6:30-8:00pm - on a couple days during the week, this is when I will get some study done for my Health & Nutrition Coaching course or write up some content for my blog.
8:00-9:00pm - I’ll sit down and watch TV with the fam - we’re currently addicted to Married at First Sight…
9:00-9:30pm - start my night time routine/bedtime. Phone goes onto ‘do not disturb’, I’ll turn on my oil diffuser with my lavender oil to help me relax, apply my magnesium spray and listen to a sleep meditation or the sound of ocean waves using my Calm app until I fall asleep. I’m a person who needs 7 hours sleep, minimum, to function. So 9:30pm bedtime is a non-negotiable!
So that's just a typical weekday in the life of me currently. Weekends are totally different; I enjoy having a little less structure as I am so structured during the week. Things change from week to week depending what's going on at work and where I'm at with my study, plus other social commitments! But one thing that never changes is my priorities for my health and fitness. Because when you make it a priority, you make time for it! And hopefully this little insight into my busy schedule has shown that and will hopefully help you do the same!
